the doing: train trivia for abdallah

the rebels responded to abdallahs concerns over our addiction to social media and the unregulated data mining that mega tech giants undertake by performing an incursion on board the sydney circle train line. rebels announced to passengers that this was a mobile free carriage and invited people to engage with a trivia game about social medias pervasiveness instead.

the submission:

what overwhelms you?

“How social company are using our data against us to make us more addictive to its products. Feeding on our time and attention, big companies are having a strong grab on us.”

why?

“I feel I can’t do what’s right even though I can see it. It’s an addiction, something stronger than you.”

abdallah, 9.10.20.

the thinking:

what is the idea we are moving forward with?

social platforms that create A.I to collect data and used to crteate dependancy and addiction. extraction of data.

mining, dopamine hit, big tech regulation, cookies, data extraction,

facebook, google

stop/interrupt phone use

how can we do it?

on the train. Instead of quiet carriages, phone free carriages encouraging people to look out the window, read a book, talk to one another etc. Noisy carriage against phones!!!

use existing signage saying no phone use – and symbols for new activities.

where does it need to take place?

on the train – loop for an hour.

are there any legal implications to the activity?

yes.
