a school uniform for ben

rebel tanya screen printed a new school uniform prototype to reflect bens concerns.

the submission:

“There is an inherent inequity in the Australian education system, whereby most non-government schools, in addition to receiving huge amounts of private funding, are also receiving generous government funding which allows them to continue operating as elite institutions. There is a huge gap in resources between those wealthy non-government schools, and government schools in areas where income is not high. This only serves to reinforce class divisions in Australia, with only wealthy people being able to afford ‘better’ resourced schools, which also buys them access to higher ATAR results and elite universities and connections.”

ben, 2.10.19.

the thinking:

what is the idea we are moving forward with?

fashion advert for school uniform for a private school.
the uniform has words and imagery of privilege on it,
alluding to the the true cost of a private school education being accessible to the wealthy elite .

how can we do it?

short viral video in the style of ‘fake govt ads’.
instagram post of the school uniform design prototype
visually disrupt an existing poster, change by line and crest. replace it with the alternative.

are there any legal implications to the activity?

defamation – satire needed.
if it is a fake school with a fake crest then there is no defamation issue.
