the submission:

what overwhelms you?

“I feel overwhelmed by the magnitude and scale of this issue globally. I’ve subscribed to a feminist newsletter and it comes into my inbox 3 times a week containing stats like this: ‘According to the Namibian Police Force 1604 rape cases were reported in the country during January 2019 – June 2020. In other words, three rape cases were reported to the Namibian police every day for 18 months. And that’s just the reported cases.”

“Because of this:

It is not uncommon for children around the world to get married when they are under the age of 18. According to the United Nations Family Planning Association, 23 girls under 18 are married every minute and 13 million child marriages will likely take place over the next decade because of the economic impacts of COVID-19.

And this:

According to the ACLU as many as 90 percent of the women who are incarcerated for killing a man were battered by that same person and 79 percent of those in prison have suffered physical abuse before their arrest.

It makes me want to cry. In fact, now I am crying.”
