the naplan pledge for pip:
the tiny revolutions rebels worked with some local perth students to develop and deliver the pledge at their school assembly.
the naplan pledge
the submission:
“the education system is causing so much unnecessary stress and anxiety to students of all ages. it undermines passion and hinders our ability to contribute to society according to our personal talents and identities. it ruins selfworth and places a number on success which locks people out of their potential and their futures. there is so much change that needs to happen..”
pip, 5.10.19.
the thinking:
what is the idea we are moving forward with?
a pre-naplan pledge to be written by students declaring what really matters with regard to their education – foregrounding mental well-being / creativity / and other life skills that fall between the gaps of standardised testing.
the pledge is to be spoken at school assembly’s before the naplan test is sat.
intent is to counter-act the negative stress and anxiety that mounts up before testing period
how can we do it?
kids come up with the declaration – we facilitate a workshop and provide stimulus / template for the declaration
where does it need to take place?
workshop with yr 10 gifted and talented class at penross senior high school
are there any legal implications to the activity?
working with children checks.
how do we document this activity? – record the final declaration as audio?
tactic: declaration

I really like this idea. I work supporting the educational needs of children who are in state care: they often do not do well in NAPLAN and it is difficult to explain how it isn’t a reflection on their intelligence. This will give them more agency in this thought process. I will scribe for children who do not have sufficient writing skills or a device of their own and it can be part of a letter writing lesson.
